The Trust Cultural Arts Education Program by the National Black Cultural Information Trust, is an initiative focused on enriching children’s lives through cultural arts education. It operates primarily as cultural arts pop-ups and community-based events, offering a range of activities and resources. The program’s core mission is to foster an appreciation for cultural arts from people of African descent among young people. The program also includes our annual African American Cultural Arts Expo and Children’s Book Fair.
Key aspects of our programming include:
- Cultural arts education that introduces children to various cultures through interactive workshops, music and storytelling sessions, and art activities (for example beading and quilt making.) These activities are designed to broaden their understanding of different traditions, languages, and histories.
- Books and learning materials that provide students and children with culturally relevant books and educational materials. These resources are carefully selected to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve, helping children see themselves and others in the stories they read.
- Community engagement through local communities, partnering with schools, libraries, and community centers. By hosting cultural arts pop-ups at community events (including Juneteenth festivals and Kwanzaa programs), our program reaches children in familiar and accessible environments, making the learning experience both engaging and comfortable.
- Empowerment through knowledge, by offering educational resources and fostering cultural awareness, the program empowers children to take pride in their heritage while developing a deeper respect for cultures of African descent.
The Trust Cultural Arts Program plays a crucial role in promoting cultural arts education, literacy and inclusivity among children, helping to create a more diverse and informed future generation. To learn more or get involved email info@nbcit.org.
