National Black Cultural Information Trust, Inc. Hosts 4th Annual African American Cultural Expo & Children’s Book Fair in Charles County, MD

WALDORF, Md. –  The National Black Cultural Information Trust, Inc. (NBCI Trust) is proud to announce its 4th Annual African American Cultural Expo & Children’s Book Fair, taking place Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Capital Clubhouse in Waldorf, Maryland.

The free, family-friendly event will bring together Black authors, independent bookstores, businesses, artists, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders from across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia for a day celebrating African American culture, literacy, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.

The African American Cultural Expo & Children’s Book Fair has become one of Southern Maryland’s signature cultural events, connecting families with educational resources, Black-owned businesses, and organizations dedicated to strengthening communities through history, culture, and opportunity.

Attendees can expect:

  • Children’s books and literature by Black authors

  • Author meet-and-greets and book signings

  • Black-owned businesses and artisan vendors

  • Community-based nonprofit organizations

  • Educational and cultural resources

  • Activities for children and families

  • Networking and community engagement opportunities

“The African American Cultural Expo & Children’s Book Fair is more than an event, it’s a celebration of our stories, creativity, and collective future,” said Jessica Ann Mitchell Aiwuyor, Executive Director of the National Black Cultural Information Trust, Inc. “Each year, we bring together authors, entrepreneurs, educators, and community organizations to create a space where culture is celebrated, literacy is encouraged, and families can access valuable resources while supporting local businesses.”

The event is part of NBCI Trust’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to cultural information, supporting Black creators, and preserving African American history through educational programming and community partnerships.

The Expo will also feature the Freedom Culture 250 exhibit, an immersive educational display commemorating 250 years of African American history, resilience, cultural achievement, and the ongoing pursuit of reparative justice during America’s 250th anniversary. Through historical storytelling, interactive resources, and community engagement, the exhibit invites visitors to explore the enduring legacy of Black freedom movements and the unfinished work of justice.

Community members of all ages are invited to attend. Admission is free.
