Event Review: NBCI Trust’s 100th Anniversary of Black History Month Book Fair in Waldorf, MD

On Saturday, February 28, 2026, the National Black Cultural Information Trust, Inc. hosted the 100th Anniversary of Black History Month Book Fair at the St. Charles Towne Center Mall in Waldorf, Maryland. The event included book readings, children’s coloring activities, and a book fair featuring Black History and children’s books. The event also featured a Black History exhibit. The exhibit included posters highlighting significant Black historical figures and their contributions.

Some of the historical figures featured were William Edward Burghardt DuBois, Mary Church Terrell, Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson, Benjamin Banneker, Ida Bell Wells, Sojourner Truth, Rev. Jesse Louis Jackson, Queen Mother Audely Moore, Ella Baker, Prince Hall, Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Mary Mcleod Bethune, Arturo Alfonso Schomburg, and Phillis Wheatley Peters. Held on the final day of Black History Month, the fair offered books from around the world for both children and adults. There was also music and a book reading for the children. Attendees asked questions and listened to Black Historical facts as well. We also had some excellent volunteers help us the entire day.

The National Black Cultural Information Trust, Inc. hosts cultural pop-up and literacy events throughout the year and will continue to promote Black History programs through our Protect Black History Initiative. To learn more about our programming, contact us at info@nbcit.org.
