Join us for our REPARATION INFORMATION THOUGHT SERIES: Areva Martin and Palm Springs Section 14 Survivors: Reparations Victory Discussion Areva Martin is an award-winning civil rights attorney, sought after on-air legal commentator and nationally recognized children’s, women’s and disability rights advocate. Martin has been dubbed “America’s Advocate” for her hard-hitting, no-holds-barred commentary on today’s most pressing legal and social justice issues. Throughout her career, Martin has fought for a lot of modern-day Emmett Tills, who’ve been beaten, battered, silenced and shortchanged by the system. An honors graduate of Harvard Law School, she is the founding principal of Martin & Martin, LLP.

From The Palm Springs Post: The Palm Springs City Council unanimously approved a $5.91 million settlement for former residents and descendants of Section 14, addressing historical injustices from the 1950s and 1960s. The decision comes after years of negotiations and community advocacy. The settlement, detailed in this report released Thursday evening, aims to compensate individuals whose homes and personal property were destroyed by city employees during evictions from the Section 14 neighborhood, located on Agua Caliente tribal land in the heart of Downtown Palm Springs. https://thepalmspringspost.com/council-unanimously-approves-settlement-with-section-14-group-paving-way-for-reparations/
