My MLK Day Children’s Book Reading Experience with the National Black Cultural Information Trust, Inc.

By Marcus Moore, NBCI Trust Community Outreach Coordinator

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, celebrated this year on January 19, 2026, I had the opportunity to support my job, the National Black Cultural Information Trust by helping host a children’s MLK Day book reading and fair. The MLK Day Children’s Book Reading was held in Charles County, Maryland and focused on education, creativity, and cultural awareness. The event, hosted at InstaCare Event Center, featured engaging activities such as coloring sheets and a live book reading that allowed children to learn about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a fun and interactive way.

The children’s book reading demonstrated the Trust’s mission of preserving and uplifting Black history by making it accessible and meaningful for younger generations. The key highlight of the day was the live reading of MLK themed children’s books, which created a shared moment of learning and reflection for both kids and adults.

Watching the children listen and engage with the stories showed how powerful storytelling can be in shaping understanding and empathy at an early age. The experience was very fulfilling and showed first hand the importance of the National Black Cultural Information Trust’s work in educating, inspiring, and empowering communities through cultural learning. It also aligns with NBCI Trust’s goal of supporting the next generation of cultural stewards and leaders.
