The National Black Cultural Information Trust, Inc. (NBCI Trust) is excited to participate in the National Harbor Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration on Friday, June 19, as part of the event’s vibrant Black-Owned Marketplace at the Capital Canopy from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
As part of our year-long Freedom Culture 250: Commemorating 250 Years of African American Reparative Justice initiative, NBCI Trust will host a special Freedom Culture 250 Bookstore Pop-Up, featuring a curated collection of Black history books, children’s literature, cultural resources, and educational materials designed to inspire learning, reflection, and community engagement.
Visitors to the NBCI Trust booth will find books that explore African American history, culture, freedom movements, reparative justice, and the stories that have shaped generations. Families will also have access to children’s books that celebrate Black identity, creativity, resilience, and achievement, helping young readers connect with their history and cultural heritage.
In addition to books, attendees can explore Juneteenth educational resources that highlight the significance of June 19, 1865, the freedom of formerly enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, the ongoing pursuit of freedom and justice, and the importance of preserving historical knowledge for future generations.
“Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and community,” said Jessica Ann Mitchell Aiwuyor, Executive Director of NBCI Trust. “Through our Freedom Culture 250 initiative, we are creating opportunities for people to engage with Black history, cultural memory, and the ongoing work of reparative justice. We are honored to be part of National Harbor’s Juneteenth celebration and look forward to connecting with families, educators, readers, and community members.”
The Freedom Culture 250 Bookstore Pop-Up is part of NBCI Trust’s broader mission to provide cultural information, educational resources, and community programming that strengthens understanding of Black history while countering historical erasure and disinformation.
Community members attending the National Harbor Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration are encouraged to stop by the NBCI Trust booth, discover new books, access free resources, and learn more about upcoming Freedom Culture 250 events throughout the year.
