Black History and African American cultural heritage are important fields of knowledge that influence the current and future life experiences of Black America. Recently, sources of online misinformation and disinformation have shared false information about Black history and the cultural heritages of Black America causing confusion in Black digital spaces concerning identity and history, while also potentially disrupting Black collective activism and civic participation. NBCI Trust is working to correct sources of false information that are targeting Black communities by providing information, news and resources that keep Black communities culturally informed from reliable sources.

The Origins of Black America
African American or Black American are interchangeable terms used to describe the descendants of Africans that were enslaved, part of maroon communities, and free in the United States of America. For the purposes of reparations, some activists use the term Descendants of Africans Enslaved in the United States (DAEUS). Black History Myths, Misinformation and Misconceptions
There are many different popular Black history myths circulating online and in everyday discourse. Myths and cultural misinformation concerning Black history, historical figures, and major events, can cause harm by erasing Black experiences, causing misconceptions about cultural identities, and increasing misunderstandings about histories that impact the current and future realities of Black life. The National Black Cultural Information Trust is working to correct this type of misinformation and make Black cultural history as accessible as possible by sharing information and educational resources in various digital spaces and convenient formats.
